As your chapter starts to plan Derby Days competitions, include your chapter sweetheart and other women in sororities and at your school. They can provide wonderful insight on events they would like to participate in. I am also a great resource! Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

 

It's essential for Sigma Chis to be involved across campus and support other organizations in their service projects and philanthropy events. It not only builds camaraderie across campus—it also helps you develop mutually beneficial relationships with your Derby Days participants. When your chapter is holding an event, other organizations will want to come out and support you because your members have supported them.

 

A great way to get the Greek community and especially sorority members involved in Derby Days is to visit them in person to invite them to attend your philanthropy events. Make an effort to stop by each house to announce your upcoming events. While you're at it, drop off a small gift basket. This can be something as simple as a bag of candy or a pack of sodas. This simple gesture will help increase participation and support for your Derby Days. 

 

Every spring during Derby Days, the Zeta Rho Sigma Chi chapter at Central Michigan University hosts a hockey game with the Sigma Pi fraternity called Sigma Freeze. This event unites sorority members and students from across campus, and the collaboration with Sigma Pi turned a fraternity rivalry into a healthy competition where all proceeds benefit Huntsman Cancer Foundation. During a recent year, this event sold out and raised over $10,000 for cancer research. After that, the Sigma Freeze expanded to include all of the fraternities on campus, with a goal of $25,000.
