I've joined the Huntsman Heroes team as a Virtual Hero to raise money for cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute. This year, 1.9 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States. On a personal note, I am running for my beautiful sister in law's mother, Julie Christensen, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer on July 26th, 2020 at the young age of 63. To those who knew her, she was kind, caring, and deeply loved her family. I first got to know her when I went to Utah for my sister and brother in law's wedding 20 years ago. She welcomed me into the fold, so to speak, and every time we visited afterwards, I was always embraced by her genuine kindness. She and I enjoyed many heartfelt conversations, and I felt her friendship and enjoyed her sense of humor. Having grown up in very different places with very unique experiences, we connected on so many levels-as women, as moms, and through our love and commitment to our families.  I learned so much about life listening to her advice. I still quote her at times, and then I smile when I think about her. I loved hearing her stories and I love my sister in law who I feel has her heart. I know she will be watching over me when I run and will be cheering me on. I know she will be why I make it to the end of this tough run. She is truly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her. I am a better person because I knew her.
