My child wants to participate in the Kids Fun K. Do I need to register for the event to run with them?

No, you do not need to register. However, you will be required to sign the event waiver on event day. Your child who is participating is required to be registered.

Is there still a virtual participant option available for 2023?

Yes! You can register as a virtual participant and do any event from anywhere! You will receive a fundraising page to help you share your message and ask for donations, and you are still able to earn all fundraising incentives.

If my family wants to watch me finish, will they be able to do that?

Yes! We love having family and friends at the finish line to cheer for and congratulate participants.

Does my registration fee count towards my goal to earn fundraising incentives?

No, it is not counted in your fundraising total.

Can I designate my fundraising towards a specific type of cancer?

Yes! During the registration process, you can choose to designate your funds towards a specific cancer type, or you can leave it as "Area of Greatest Need," and the funds will be dispersed accordingly.
NOTE: If you join a team that already has a designation in place, your funds raised will go towards that designation.

What is the difference between family and team registration?

Family registration is only available for the Run & Walk (5K, 10K Trail & Kids Fun K) and Virtual event options. Family registration is for those wanting to have one person register multiple participants for the same event and have everyone in the group fundraise on the same web page.

NOTE: Only the person registering will receive communications about the event and be eligible to earn fundraising incentives i.e. athletic jerseys and jackets. This is ideal for registering yourself and young children.

Teams are designed for individuals to come together and pool their fundraising on a team page. However, each member of the team has their own personalized, individual fundraising page and is eligible to earn their own incentives. This allows team members to track their individual fundraising contributions and be eligible to earn incentive items, such as a cycling or running jersey. Members of the same team are able participate in separate events and distances allowing all interests and ability levels to join together in the fun. Teams are ideal for companies, families, or groups with multiple adults wanting to participate together.

I’ve heard there is a cycling training program. Is there a fundraising minimum? How do I join?

Yes! The fundraising minimum to participate in the cycling training program is $250 by May 1. Our cycling training program starts in April (weather permitting) and includes group rides every Saturday and weekly coaching emails with training, nutrition, and other tips through event day. The cycling training program can help you prepare for any distance you want to ride in the Huntsman SportsFest. As a registered rider, you will receive the training emails each Thursday with location and distance details.

Are the walk, run, and ride events a race?

Nope! They are non-competitive. The Huntsman SportsFest is an event designed to bring runners, cyclists, and participants of all levels together to raise money to support the mission of Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). Together, we celebrate, remember, and get closer to a world without cancer.

If I plan to participate in a community event (an event held prior to event day that supports Huntsman SportsFest), do I need to be registered in your system?

No. Unless you plan to join us for the run/walk, Kids Fun K, or ride on June 10, 2023 (or as a Virtual Participant), you do not need to be registered online. Each community event is ran and organized by the individual/group holding the event. Each event will have their own ways to register, donate, and participate.*

* If you are participating in a community event and would like your own personal fundraising web page, you have the ability to register in our system as a Virtual Participant. This will let us know that you are not planning to be there on June 10, but gives you a web page to share with friends and family to raise funds for Huntsman Cancer Institute.

I registered but now I can't be there on event day. Can I still get my packet and t-shirt?

If you are unable to join us on event day and would still like to collect your packet and event t-shirt, please email us at [email protected] and we can arrange to get them to you. T-shirts for those unable to attend on event day will only be mailed at the fundraisers request.*

* Those who earn a fundraising jersey but are unable to collect it at packet pickup or on event day will have it mailed post-event. Please note that jersey orders may take several weeks post-event to complete, and we will do our best to get it to you in a timely manner.

Where does the money go?

100% of all funds raised go to support the mission of Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in Salt Lake City, Utah. By funding efforts to better understand the beginnings of cancer and more effectively treat cancer, you help relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for cancer patients, survivors, and their families when you give. Cancer patients, caregivers, and donors are encouraged to come together in a myriad of ways to fight cancer individually and collectively through fundraising programs and events like the Huntsman SportsFest.

My family/friends and I are doing different events. Can we still be on the same team?

Yes!  Participants from different events can be on the same team. With a team, each participant has their own fundraising page as well as the collective team page. Remember, family registration is different than a team.

How do I start fundraising?

A personal fundraising page is created when you sign up to participate in the Huntsman SportsFest. This page is a great tool to ask for and  track donations, and monitor progress towards your goal. Visit our Fundraising Toolkit for tips and ideas that have helped other fundraisers.

What are the 2023 fundraising incentives?

As always, the best incentive for fundraising is getting closer to eradicating cancer. However, we have a few fun things up our sleeves as a THANK YOU for fundraising! Check out the 2023 fundraising incentive levels.

How do I volunteer?

The Huntsman SportsFest is an amazing event because of so many wonderful volunteers-and we need you! We have many volunteer positions that need to be filled to make sure the event is a success. Our needs range from early morning registration at Fort Douglas to staffing aid stations along the walk & run courses — and the ride always has dozens of assignments along the course. 2023 volunteer registration will open in the Spring.

Are gifts made through my fundraising page tax-deductible?

Yes. Huntsman Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.  All gifts made through your Huntsman SportsFest individual or team fundraising page or sent directly to Huntsman Cancer Foundation on your behalf are tax-deductible and donors will receive an emailed or mailed receipt at the time of their gift.

Gifts made through a third-party donation platform (example: Facebook's fundraising platform versus sharing your direct Huntsman SportsFest online fundraising page) are unable to be receipted by Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Can donations be mailed to Huntsman Cancer Foundation and still be credited to my fundraising page?

Yes! Checks can be mailed to our office where our Events Team will put them on your fundraising page. Checks should be written to Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Please include your name, as well as the event written in the memo line or on an included note to help us know who it is for!
