About Huntsman Cancer Institute
Huntsman Cancer Institute is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center for Utah, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Wyoming. Proudly serving the Mountain West, the institute researches and treats over 200 types of cancer and supports patients with all forms of the disease.. Its mission is to understand cancer from its beginnings, use that knowledge to improve treatments, relieve patients' suffering, and educate individuals and communities about cancer risk, prevention, and care.
Founded in 1995 by Jon M. Huntsman Sr. and his wife Karen, Huntsman Cancer Institute began with a bold vision: a world where cancer is not only treatable, but preventable. What started as a personal commitment has evolved into a global movement—uniting passionate scientists, healthcare providers, patients, and communities in the journey to deliver a cancer-free frontier through scientific discovery and human touch.
Why Support Huntsman Cancer Institute
With management of the Utah Population Database (UPDB), Huntsman Cancer Institute houses the world’s largest repository of health and genealogic records in the world. More genetic mutations responsible for inherited cancers have been discovered at Huntsman Cancer Institute than at any other cancer center. These include the mutations responsible for breast, ovarian, colon, head and neck cancers, melanoma, and more.
We stand on the precipice of the breakthroughs that will radically change cancer treatment and eventually prevent cancer altogether. Huntsman Cancer Institute researchers and doctors are at the forefront of discoveries concerning the genetic risks of cancer and the best ways to treat and prevent it.
