What is my commitment if I become a Huntsman Hero for LoToJa?

When you sign up as a Huntsman Hero for one of our partner events—including LoToJa—you commit to fundraising either $1,500 (full distance cyclists) or $750 (per relay rider if on a relay team) for Huntsman Cancer Institute. Your fundraising needs to be completed prior to event day or you will be ineligible to ride. Need help or have fundraising questions? Email Ashley Ryan at [email protected]

Starting in 2025, fundraising commitments are now set at $750 per relay rider and $1,500 per individual full-distance rider, up from $500 and $1,000, respectively. These adjustments are not made lightly, but they are essential to ensure that the maximum possible funds are raised for cancer research through our partnership with LoToJa.

Due to the high costs of this event and as part of our partnership with LoToJa, cyclists who do not meet their individual fundraising commitment will be charged the remainder of their balance. Participants who need to drop from the event due to injury, scheduling conflict, etc., and let us know before August 1, 2025, will not be required to fulfill this fundraising commitment.

Why did the fundraising commitment increase this year?

For the first time since 2004, we are adjusting the fundraising commitments for Huntsman Hero team members in the LoToJa event to keep pace with rising event costs and maximize support for Huntsman Cancer Institute. Starting in 2025, the new commitments will be $750 per relay rider and $1,500 per individual full-distance rider, up from $500 and $1,000, respectively. These adjustments are not made lightly, but they are essential to ensure that the maximum possible funds are raised for cancer research through our partnership with LoToJa.

Our ultimate goal remains to make a significant impact in the fight against cancer, and this can only be achieved through the collective efforts of you, our dedicated participants and supporters. This change ensures that 100% of funds raised continue to fuel groundbreaking cancer research. Your dedication makes a direct impact—advancing treatments, improving lives, and bringing us closer to a future free of cancer. Together, we can reach new goals and make a lasting difference.

Do I need to be a cancer patient or survivor to participate as a Huntsman Hero?

Nope! To become a Huntsman Hero, you just need to have a passion for creating a world without cancer by supporting Huntsman Cancer Institute. Patients, survivors, and supporters alike are welcome!

Where does the money go?

One hundred percent of all funds raised supports groundbreaking cancer research at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. By funding efforts to better understand the beginnings of cancer and more effectively treat cancer, you help relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for cancer patients, survivors, and their families. Cancer patients, caregivers, and donors are encouraged to come together in a myriad of ways to fight cancer individually and collectively through fundraising programs like Huntsman Heroes.

Can I designate my fundraising toward a specific type of cancer?

You can! During the registration process, you can choose to designate your funds toward a specific cancer type, or you can leave it as "Area of Greatest Need," and the funds will be dispersed accordingly.

NOTE: If you join a team that already has a designation in place, your funds raised will go toward that designation.

What are the incentive items for fundraising?

The best incentive is getting the world closer to a future free of cancer. To add a little more fun to the mix, check out these individual fundraising incentives:

  • Raise $1,500 ($750 for relay riders) and receive a Huntsman Heroes team jersey and an invite to our end-of-year celebration
  • Raise $2,000 ($1,250 for relay riders) and receive a Huntsman Heroes team jacket or cycling bibs
  • Raise $3,500 and receive a hotel room on September 6 (post-event) in Jackson, WY.
    • Only available for the first five participants to reach this incentive level.

Are gifts tax deductible when made through my fundraising page?
