We (Sara and Josue Hernandez) have joined the Huntsman Heroes Team that is running the full Ogden Marathon in May of 2025 in a effort to raise money for the Huntsman Cancer Institute. We are dedicating this fundraising to our parents Jorge and Lourdes Hernandez. Our dad passed away this year (2024) on the 16th of June (Father's Day) after battling Lung Cancer for 6 1/2 years. Just as we thought we were done dealing with cancer 5 1/2 weeks later our mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently being treated for it. As you can imagine the topic of cancer has taken on new meaning to our family.

As we reflected on our experience  and our desire to be part of this fundraiser we also had an opportunity to remember our grand fathers Trinidad Hernandez and Ramon Valentin, our Aunt Amalia Vantassel, our uncle Gary Barnett and our good friend Richard Gastelum who passed away from cancer. Their deaths have also had great impact on us, their immediate families and their friends. We all know someone who has battled cancer whether they are a family member, a friend, a friend of friend, a co-worker, you name it.  We can all relate to the impact that cancer can have on families.
