FUNDRAISING TOOLKIT
Fighting cancer is a cause that is easy to rally around and one that many people will gladly support. One hundred percent of the money you raise funds Huntsman Cancer Institute's mission to understand cancer from its beginnings, to use that knowledge in the creation and improvement of cancer treatments, to relieve the suffering of cancer patients, and to provide education about cancer risk, prevention, and care. We want to do everything we can to help you so you can make the largest impact possible. Check out our tips, forms, and videos below!
GETTING STARTED AND FUNDRAISING TIPS
SET UP YOUR PERSONAL AND TEAM FUNDRAISING PAGES
A personal fundraising page is created when you sign up to participate in the 2023 Huntsman SportsFest, and it is a great tool to let others know why you are raising money for Huntsman Cancer Institute. Are you raising money in honor of yourself, or a friend or family member? Personalize your web page with a story and photos; a real-life story makes fundraising personal and powerful.
If you created a team, a team fundraising page will automatically be created for you—use that page to tell your team's story. You can invite others to join your team, and their individual page totals will pool together on the central team page.
MAKE A LIST AND SEND AN EMAIL OR TEXT MESSAGE
Personally asking someone for a donation is one of the most successful ways to fundraise. Make a list of potential donors, and include everyone you know. Send them your fundraising page link via email, text, or social media direct message. Pro tip: start by making a donation yourself (any amount!) and asking others to match it. We have created three sample letter templates to get you started:
Have someone that wants to make a gift via check? No problem! Send them the Support Me Donation Form and and ask them to mail it to us along with their check. All the information we need to get the donation applied towards your fundraising goal is on this form.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
When you're raising money in honor or memory of someone, it can be easier to inspire others to action. Let everyone know who you're honoring. A real-life story makes your fundraising personal.
ASK SOMEONE EVERY DAY
Ask one person each day to make a contribution. If you get five $20 gifts, you will have raised $100 in less than a week! Cancer is an issue that affects us all, and most people are happy to donate—even in tough economic times. Don’t just assume the answer is no; give everyone the opportunity to be a part of the cause by making a tax-deductible donation. Every donation makes a difference!
Social media is a fun, fast, and easy way to turn friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors into donors. Think big and use your social media outlets to tap into an entirely new network of people beyond just your immediate contacts. You’ll be surprised at the extra donations that can come in just by sharing your personal fundraising page on social media. And be sure to use our event hashtags as you post about your involvement: #RunForHope #RideForHope #HuntsmanSportsFest
TALK IT UP
Ask for a few minutes on the agenda of any meetings you’ll be attending. Explain why you are raising money and ask for everyone’s support. If you are dedicating your efforts to someone who has cancer, tell that person’s story. Look for different avenues to let people know you are raising funds for Huntsman Cancer Institute.
THANK YOUR DONORS
Please don’t forget to thank your donors! You can give them a call, recognize them on social media, or send them an email, a text, or a handwritten note. It’s important to recognize your supporters and let them know their contribution is valued.
