Fundraising Toolkit

Fighting cancer is a cause that's easy to rally around and one that many people will gladly support. Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) is working hard to discover new ways to treat cancer, and 100% of the money you raise furthers the mission of HCI. Here at Huntsman Cancer Foundation, we want to do everything we can to help you make the largest impact possible.

GETTING STARTED

SET UP YOUR FUNDRAISING PAGE

When you register as a Huntsman Hero, a personal fundraising page is created for you, and it’s a great tool to let others know why you are raising money for cancer research. Are you raising money in honor of a friend or family member? Or for yourself? Customize your webpage with a story and photos; a real-life story makes fundraising personal and powerful.

MAKE A LIST AND SEND AN EMAIL OR TEXT MESSAGE

Personally asking someone for a donation is one of the most successful ways to fundraise. Ninety percent of all donations through individual fundraising efforts are made because of direct asks. Below are three different letter examples to help you write your own email. Feel free to personalize these letters for your needs, or use them as inspiration to create your own message. Sending a personal text is a good alternative to an email.

Have someone that wants to make a gift via check? No problem! Send them the Support Me Donation Form and ask them to mail the completed form along with their check. All the information that we need to get the donation applied towards your fundraising goal is on this form.

MAKE IT PERSONAL

When you're raising money in honor or memory of someone in your community, it can be easier to inspire others to take action. Let everyone know why you're raising money. A real-life story makes your fundraising personal.

ASK EVERY DAY

Ask one person each day to make a contribution. If you get five $20 gifts you will have raised $100 in less than a week! Cancer is an issue that affects us all, and most people are happy to donate—even in tough economic times. Don’t just assume the answer is no; give everyone the opportunity to be a part of the cause by making a tax-deductible donation.

Social media is a fun, fast, and easy way to turn friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors into donors. Think big and use your social media outlets to tap into a whole new network of people beyond your immediate contacts. You’ll be surprised at the extra donations that can come in just by sharing your personal fundraising page on social media. And don't forget to use our hastags, #HuntsmanHeroes and #HeroForHope!

TALK IT UP

Ask for a few minutes on the agenda of any meetings you’ll be attending. Explain why you are raising money for Huntsman Cancer Foundation and ask for everyone’s support. If you are dedicating your efforts to someone who has cancer, tell that person’s story. Will your company allow you to write something for your company newsletter? Look for different avenues to let people know you are raising funds for cancer research.

THANK YOUR DONORS

Please don’t forget to thank your donors! You can send them a handwritten note, email, or text; give them a call; or even recognize them on social media. It’s important to appreciate your supporters and let them know their contribution is valued.
