Huntsman Challenge FAQs
We have answers to all of your questions! If you can’t find the answers here, please email [email protected] or give us a call at 801-584-5800.
Where do our donations go?
100% of all funds raised on this site or by mail-in check go directly to the researchers and treatment team members doing lifesaving work at Huntsman Cancer Institute. Unlike many other non-profits, our operational expenses are generously covered by the Huntsman family, meaning that every single penny donated to Huntsman Cancer Foundation through your chapter goes directly to support HCI’s mission to understand cancer from its beginnings, to use that knowledge in the creation and improvement of cancer treatments, to relieve the suffering of cancer patients, and to provide education about cancer risk, prevention, and care.
Are gifts made through the Huntsman Challenge website tax deductible?
Huntsman Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. All donors will receive an emailed receipt at the time of their gift. If you do not get an email, check your spam folder, then contact us at [email protected].
Can alumni participate in the Huntsman Challenge?
Any alum can join in their undergraduate chapter’s team, or start their own for their alumni chapter. To start a new team separate from the chapters found on this website, contact us at [email protected].
How can chapters submit funds from special events outside of the Huntsman Challenge website?
Two ways: submit funds directly to your university or team page via credit card, or mail a check to Huntsman Cancer Foundation, 500 Huntsman Way, Salt Lake City, UT 84108.
My chapter traditionally raises money for a separate cause; can we fundraise for Huntsman as well?
Absolutely! We understand that some chapters have long-standing relationships with other non-profit organizations that sometimes predate Sigma Chi’s first pledge to Huntsman Cancer Foundation, and as Sigma Chis ourselves, we value philanthropy and giving in any form. We do encourage chapters to at least establish a relationship with us as Sigma Chi’s preferred philanthropic partner; so please reach out to us at [email protected] to begin a fruitful partnership!
Additionally, some chapters that dedicate Derby Days to another cause will have an event focusing on our cause to end cancer at some other point in the year. There are no rules against donating to more than one cause!

When can we fundraise for Huntsman?
Anytime throughout the school year! Sigma Chi’s traditional week of philanthropy is Derby Days, commonly taking place in the Spring, but we also highly encourage chapters to get a head start on their fundraising by holding one-off events throughout the fall and winter.
These preliminary events serve the dual purpose of giving your members practice on how to throw a successful philanthropy, as well as getting participants and other Greek members excited and passionate about your cause of becoming the Generation to End Cancer.

When are donations due to count toward this school year, or to be eligible for the Huntsman Retreat of Excellence (20K+ Club)?
In order to attend the Huntsman Retreat of Excellence, all chapters must submit their money by May 15. If you have any events after May 15 or need more time, just let us know.
